Hall 9 of the NEC- SmartHome show 2005
On arrival you might be forgiven for believing the show was disappointingly small, undoubtedly if you wished to you might have most likely walked all the isles as well as been out once again in under 15 minutes. However, on better inspection there was plenty to keep you occupied. We spent six hours there on the Friday, plus a number of a lot more hours on the Saturday.
The show did have a strong bias towards AV so there were plasmas, LCDs as well as projectors everywhere. Microsoft’s Windows Media Centre edition 2005 (MCE2005) was, as may be expected, featured on lots of stands too.
Several people commented to me that there was a lack of “integration” at the event. I mean that’s as much as the installation business to supply though. It’s understandable that the exhibitors that were makers or distributors would only be thinking about promoting their wares. With the exception of WebBrick as well as comfort the a lot more “techy” side of house automation was quite much absent at this show

Seminars were extremely well attended
The seminars seemed extremely busy, particularly on the Friday. The seminar theatre in the middle of the hall was normally full, showing that the exhibition was not just being checked out by the laid-back lookers,
wandering in from the restoration as well as building show next door. These visitors were focused on wise house technologies as well as were there to learn. undoubtedly one exhibitor we spoke to stated he expected the very first hour or two to be peaceful on the Thursday morning. nevertheless there was a queue of people waiting to get into the hall before opening time. a number of exhibitors told me they had provided out their entire stock of advertising leaflets etc within the very first day of the four day event.
The one word I heard a lot more that any type of other as I explored the stands was of program “Cat5”. Bus lighting, IR Distribution, Security, CCTV, whole home Audio are all products that, for the primary part utilize Cat5e as their typical wiring standard. in spite of the continued onslaught of wireless products, it seems the requirement for a
structured wiring system is still extremely real. While wireless can be a excellent assist in specific circumstances, particularly retrofits, it still makes massive sense to flood cable a new build, whether a bespoke self develop or a house in a development.

55 wonderful Inches of HD Plasma
The Hitachi stand was my very first introduction to high meaning TV. having checked out great deals on HDTV it was great to see it “in the flesh”. The 55” plasma as well as its smaller siblings were running an HD demo from a PC source. It had the normal boosted colours as well as pictures specially created to show it off, however it was damn impressive! We thought about producing a diversion as well as trying to make off with it, however we didn’t believe we might outrun security.

Touch switch Development
On the WebBrick stand Andy showed us an fascinating touch switch system they are working with to establish a custom-made switch plate. They hope to utilize it to activate WebBrick’s functions as well as supply custom-made colours on the switch.
A stand in the primary hall that caught our eye was the EIS with a big poster proclaiming multi-room audio at a expense of just £179 per room. On our initial
inspection it seems to need a bespoke 12 core cable.

Opus Multi-room
Ben Geach from just Automate showed us a few of the new products they are now offering. The Opus Octopus whole home audio system needs only a Cat5 cord from the source to every bedroom/zone. It then attaches to a keypad in the wall which has an integrated amplifier. The ceiling speakers are then wired back to the wall keypad. likewise on show was the new touch screen for the harmony system. It’s expected this will be released in the coming weeks.

LCD picture Frames
The LCD photo frame stand was one of those you just had to stop as well as gaze at. The frames featured a 1024×768 panel with a media card visitor for the most prominent 7 kinds of flash card. An IR remote enabled manage of the device, setting the time intervals, as well as the shift type. The single panel frame was around £550 while the excellent 3 picture one was around £1,500.
Siemens were there with the Siemens Bus that took part in our UKHA2004 show at Hatfield.
Several integrators showed little screens of Clipsal products. nevertheless Clipsal themselves were conspicuous by their absence. It was disappointing that they hadn’t made the effort to be there, particularly as they put on such a excellent screen at our own UKHA2004 show vorig jaar in Hatfield.
